Sara Evelyn is a sound and interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans scenography, composition, DIY electronics, printmaking and photography. Her work considers space, materiality, and site and is often created as a response to the acoustic or material elements of a specific place or environment.

Sara's compositional practice brings together her MA research, interweaving spatial and topographical practices to explore memory and place, with experiments in improvisation, performing and recording in different acoustic environments (churches, quarries, caves). She works primarily with voice and field recording alongside pipe organ, synthesiser, lyre, harp and electroacoustic recording on cassette tape to create multilayered compositions and live performances.

Originally from Wales, Sara worked and studied in Slovenia (2013-17) and Norway (2017-19). She is currently based in South West Wales.

2023 lasus barrow by Enja Grabrijan radioštudent

'lasus barrow presents with expressive clarity a penetrating and polished sound at the intersection of electronics and acoustics. The track titles lead the listener through an interspace that blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy. All three compositions are connected by a flow that could be attributed to water, everything from the uneven dripping inside a cave to the mighty roaring of the river and the waves of the sea. This evokes the questions of cultural theorist Astrid Neimanis, who connects embodiment with omnipresent water and who is interested in how paying attention to such connections can help us to imagine justice, care and attitude towards the environment in a different way in a time of increasingly pronounced climate change. Likewise the floating music on lasus barrow, Sara Evelyn's short debut, invites us to recognize the diverse connections of the world and to reflect on our own place in it.'
